  • Paarl, South Africa

Overview.

Paving the way forward for South African music festivals and garnering global recognition. Bazique festival should be on the top of this seasons’ list, with immersive art installations, international and local musical acts, unique programming, and an incredible atmosphere.

Just 35 a minute drive from Cape Town. Bazique features a unique floating stage and a vast playa for the night program. Lush vineyard surroundings make up the picturesque mountainous landscape of the Paarl valley.

The afternoon winds flow down the mountains and into the valley creating a Burning Man-Esque dust cloud and an atmosphere to rival the Nevada icon.

The Ruitersvlei Wine Estate features a large freshwater swimming lake and a huge playa area with unobstructed views of the Paarl wine region. The daytime programming is centred around the lake until sunset. After which the attention onto the playa for the night program.

Ukudlala Beach is the most recognisable stage with its multi-coloured material shading covering a large area in front of the booth. Journeys End Island is shaped like a jellyfish in the middle of the lake. Use the ferry or your favourite floatie to get there for this unique experience.

The Kraal is African flavoured and art-immersive in a style that pushes through the night to welcome the sunrise each morning. La Fee Verte the electric ballroom. Think in terms of funk, disco and drag. Rather than house and techno. It’s festival entertainment of the weird and wonderful.

Boombox Art Car features a dazzling lighting rig illuminating the playa each night before driving off before the sun comes up. Silent Disco productions sprout up on the playa each dusk and get the groovy ball rolling for the evening programming at La Fee Verte.

Does it get cold at night?

Even though Bazique is held in March, the temperature can drop to the low teens on occasion. Pack a warm top or two, and you might give yourself a high five when wandering the misty playa during the late night/early morning.
